If you have ever thought about getting certified as an Imago Relationship Therapist, now is the time!  You will get a solid training in the basics of Imago theory and practice, and learn the latest advances and techniques of this dynamic approach.  You will be able to present yourself as a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, and get referrals from the Imago Institute.  In addition, you will be entering a vibrant world-wide community of therapists dedicated to the advancement of this work, and have all the support and advanced training opportunities that this offers.

Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) was developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., author of the best-selling “Getting the Love You Want”.  The model has deepened and expanded over the years, and continues to be on the cutting edge of relationship therapies.  In this training, you will learn:

  • A comprehensive theory of relationships, and how to apply this theory in your practice working with couples.
  • How to identify core relationship issues-getting beneath the surface issues so that you can effect change on the deepest levels.
  • A variety of powerful interventions which will increase your effectiveness and confidence working with couples.
  • A model that teaches couples how to move from conflict to connection, and to utilize their relationship for growth and healing.
  • To understand your own relationship dynamics, and how to apply this knowledge for personal growth/healing and for the enhancement of your intimate relationships.

Admission Requirements

  1. Participation in a “Getting the Love You Want”: Workshop for Couples led by a certified workshop presenter prior to, or shortly after beginning the training. (Note: We would like you to attend with your partner if you are in a committed relationship. Single therapists may attend with intimate partner, close friend, relative, or colleague).
  2. Proof of licensure or certification to practice psychotherapy in the state or country in which you practice.

Graduate students in the fields of counseling/psychology/social work  are  welcome to attend, though  you will  not  be  eligible for certification until you have been licensed.

Each applicant will be considered on their own merits. If you do not have all of the above credentials, please attach a cover letter to your application which addresses the exception.

Post-Training Requirements:

To become a Certified Imago Therapist and be eligible for clinical membership in IRW, you will need to:

  • Attend all 12 days of the Basic Clinical Training, and complete all   course requirements including readings and small group work.
  • Complete 6 months of Imago supervision after the 12-day training (Cost: $600).
  • Present video samples demonstrating your use of Imago Relationship Therapy with couples, and pass a certification tape after completion of the 6 months supervision (cost for certification tape review: $195).
  • Serve as clinical support staff in a “Getting the Love You Want” Couples Workshop within one year of course completion.

Having completed all these requirements, the trainee may apply to the Institute for Clinical Membership. Upon acceptance as a Clinical Member of the Institute, one may represent him/herself as a Certified Imago Therapist®.

Note: Full tuition must be paid 2 weeks prior to the training.  We expect people to commit to complete the training, and there are no refunds after this time, unless canceled by the presenter.
